“Lazy people don’t even cook the game they catch, but the diligent make use of everything they find.” Proverbs 12:27 I grew up doing a lot of fishing. Some of my favorite memories involve sitting around the dinner table after a long time in the boat and eating fried fish. My dad made the best fish. I’m still not sure what type of batter he used, but it was good. He always taught us kids that we don’t keep any fish unless we eat it. When we cleaned the fish, my dad would throw the guts and other “unused” parts of the fish into a bucket. We would then take the bucket out to the garden and bury it where the fish remains would become fertilizer for our vegetable garden. We used every part of the fish for something. I didn’t realize it at the time, but my dad taught a valuable and biblical lesson: be diligent in stewarding the resources God gives you. Don’t waste anything, and don’t be lazy in your stewardship. Find a way to use every part of every resource. In our finances, this is important as well. Budgeting involves spending every dollar on paper before it ever hits your bank account. Know where every single penny will go BEFORE you make money so that you don’t spend it on “stuff” that won’t help you accomplish your financial goals. A budget is foundational to winning with money. A budget must be done each month because your income and expenses change every month. If you don’t know where to begin, I can help. If you don’t think a budget is that big of a deal, let me show you why it is.

Have you ever felt like you stunk with money? Like no matter what you did, you just couldn’t get it right? Me too. When my wife and I first got married, I thought I knew how to manage money, but we were $70k in consumer debt after a few years, and I kept digging. I kept spending. It wasn’t that I couldn’t do the numbers, I could, but my behavior was preventing me from moving forward. I was stuck. If this resonates with you, you must know it is possible to win. It is possible to get unstuck and stop stinking with money. I can help you get on a plan that puts you in control of your money. #MaxonFinancialSolutions #Freedom #CoachScott Did you have fun celebrating the 4th of July? We sure did! What are some of the holiday traditions of your family? Do you pig out on burgers and brats? Do you light up the night sky with fireworks? My seven-year-old asked yesterday why we use fireworks to celebrate our freedom. What a great question! It got me thinking about what freedom is and why we enjoy it so much here in the great U.S. of A. Freedom is a “state of exemption from the power or control of another; liberty; exemption from slavery, servitude, or confinement.” Throughout July, we’ll be taking a look at what freedom looks like in the area of money. Let’s face it, if we have any kind of debt, we are under the power and control of whoever we owe money to. Whether it is the bank, credit card companies, or our family, servitude via debt is no fun. It stresses us out. It hinders our mental health and hurts our relationships. What would you do without any debt payments? Is it possible to be financially free? Yes! If you are struggling with anything, you must know that you aren’t alone. You must also know that there is help! As a Christian, I firmly believe that genuine freedom is found only in Christ.
